Molly Hatchet - Dave Evans

Molly Hatchet20.04.2005 - Mannheim (Germany) - Capitol

There were two big surprises for on that evening. The first was the nice one: Dave Evans.
The second was the fact that, though everywhere mentioned Dave Hlubek didn't play with Molly Hatchet. But back to the first surprise. Dave Evans played a very good gig! There was so much power in that band. The played a full hour (only 25 minutes less than Molly Hatchet) and they rocked the house with their Heavy Rock. Not only the encore, AC/DCs Whole lotta rosie, was well accepted. All the members of Dave Evans played as if it was their last chance. Very good!!!

After a short break Molly Hatchet came on the stage. But not with Dave Hlubek but with a guitar roadie as second guitarist!! (What I realized a few days later, because I haven't seen Dave Hlubek before). The sound was very bad. If you didn't knew the lyrics you had no chance to understand the songs. Only the "Hell yeah" from Phil McCormack could be heard very clearly and too often. With the new bass and keyboard players it is one more step to the Bobby Ingram Group. For me it gets more and more a one man show. Only Phil seems to be a respected band member. The rest are only musicans that are necessary.

For the setlist, it was the usual mix of hits and some songs of the new album. Because of the bad sound it was very difficult to say if they are as good as the last CDs. We will see. For me it was my worst Molly Hatchet gig.
